St. Clair Shores' French settlers arrived as early as 1710, at which time the area was referred to by L'anse Creuse. (L'anse Creuse is the same name as a stop on the now-defunct interurban railroad off of Jefferson Ave near Nine Mile Road, and it serves as the namesake for L'Anse Creuse Public Schools in central Macomb County, MI, and L'Anse Creuse High School in Harrison Twp. Today, St. Clair Shores, Michigan, residents are fortunate to have numerous parks and recreation areas to enjoy.
